Building a career in academia, particularly in a top-ranked, competitive research university like UM can be very challenging. ASPD is here to help early career researchers to begin their academic career in UM, through the Advancing Scholars in Career Development and Education (ASCEND) Program.
ASCEND is designed in an interactive 'experiential learning' format. Participants are trained through a hands-on teaching and learning (TnL) process, guided by TnL pedagogical principles in course design, evaluation, and delivery. In addition, current elements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the application of various methods to achieve blended learning are incorporated. These are implemented through group work facilitated by experienced and excellent facilitators.
This programme also incorporated the scope of self and career development, a brief introduction that focuses on self-motivation, vision and mission. Staff are also provided with training on research career planning where the main important topics will be given in the training sessions. The staff will also plan their respective research pathways.
